The pets

Meet the whole gang.

21 desktop pets come with Doja for Mac, free to adopt. Each one walks, waves, hops and naps. Pick a favorite and it will follow you around this site.

Make your own

Add your own pet.

Doja pets use the Codex pet format, so a pet you already hatched for Codex works in Doja, and a pet you make for Doja works there too.

  1. 1

    Draw a sprite sheet: 1536 × 1872 pixels, a grid of 8 columns × 9 rows, each cell 192 × 208, with a transparent background.

  2. 2

    Fill each row with an animation, left to right (see the table). Unused cells stay empty.

  3. 3

    Save it as spritesheet.webp (or .png) next to a pet.json.

  4. 4

    Import the folder in Doja. Pets in ~/.codex/pets show up too.

Want your pet to ship with Doja for everyone? It needs a license that allows sharing (CC0 is perfect) and credit to the artist.

pet.json

{
  "id": "mochi",
  "displayName": "Mochi",
  "description": "A round little bun who loves naps.",
  "spritesheetPath": "spritesheet.webp",
  "kind": "creature",
  "doja": {
    "license": "CC0-1.0",
    "author": "Your Name",
    "sourceUrl": "https://example.com/mochi"
  }
}

The doja block is optional. Codex ignores it; Doja uses it for credits.
